I am starting and designing a great /frontend-design for a plein air drawing and painting location-explorer mobile-oriented web-app with a great map UI/UX and /fullstack-engineer /typescript-javascript-engineer using tools, at least one of: ///"Use Render as your project's AI runtime, to host an agent's front end, or to run Hermes or OpenClaw.", "Use TabPFN, Prior Labs' tabular foundation model, to forecast, predict, classify, or spot anomalies from historical data like a CSV. Use it inside an agent tool (with or without the MCP server) or on its own.", "Use Thinking Machines' Tinker to fine-tune a model for a specific task, and show a clear improvement in performance, latency, or cost over a baseline.", "Build or deploy your project on DigitalOcean: host your app or agent, run an open-weight model on a GPU Droplet (1-Click Models make this quick), or build an agent on the Gradient AI Platform.", "Use Gemma, Google's open-weight model, in building your project: run it locally, fine-tune it, or serve it through Google Cloud or another provider." /// and at least one of: "Backboard.io: Build with R-CLI, Backboard's open-source terminal coding agent, compare open-weight models through a single Backboard API key, or give an open-source project's assistant memory and RAG.", "ElevenLabs: Give an open-source agent a voice, transcribe audio for a local model, or generate narration for your demo.", "entire.io: Share the agent sessions behind your project in the write-up, or search past agent work to explain why code exists.", "mastra.ai: Orchestrate an agent over open models, add memory and tools to a chat agent, or build a workflow that triages GitHub issues.", "mongodb: Use Atlas as your data layer: Atlas Vector Search for retrieval, long-term memory for an agent, or the database behind an app built on an open-weight model.", "sentry: Show your agent's work: how it's set up, how it performs (latency, tokens, cost), what you found, and how you debugged it. Include traces or screenshots in your write-up.", "serpapi.com/search-api: Give an agent live web search, ground a RAG app in fresh results, or track news for an open-source project.", "temporal.io/ai-cookbook: Make your agent durable. Wrap it in a Temporal workflow so it survives failures, retries flaky tool calls, and picks up where it left off.", "tigerdata.com/docs: Store embeddings with pgvector, run hybrid keyword and vector search for an agent, or let an agent manage a database through Tiger MCP." /// we can use at least one or multiple combination of tools in each group. Our project is a highlight of the utility of open-source/innovation matters for the project. /// from each group, some tools overlap in functionality so we can realistically only use one, likewise the project will call for tools based on how we build its UX. we won't be missing out if we don't use x tool as future opportunities will arise for a different set of tools to use. A solid balance is the standard. /// and before we begin, I would like to use https://devrelay.com/ to save my agent session and embed it or link it to a post about my project. perhaps one of the tools is useful to save my agent session to dev or dev is built to do that on its own. I have devrelay installed and working with powershell CLI and will also use it to make a draft entry on DEV and save my agent transcript

A plein-air location explorer needs a map-first mobile UX and a small set of tools that actually serve that experience. I’ll check how DevRelay saves sessions and drafts, then lock a balanced stack before writing the plan.

Week 1 of the Touch Grass challenge is still open tonight, and a plein-air field guide fits it. DevRelay can save the session itself — that is a DEV feature, not a separate sponsor tool — so the plan starts there, then builds a tight app around three tools that earn their place in the map.

the app is called Trail Sketch. It's also for drawing not just painting. I also want to add the use of entire on the project for my cursor agent session as I just installed its CLI with powershell. for any tools used, I can provide needed API keys as we build. I have an elevenlabs profile and render account, but yet to use Gemma on a project

Trail Sketch should cover drawing and painting, and Entire should sit next to the DEV session. I’ll check the CLI you just installed and the existing Trail Sketch folder, then revise the plan.

Trail Sketch already exists as a repo created tonight, so the app stays there. Entire and DevRelay do different jobs: one ties this Cursor session to the commits, the other embeds it in the DEV draft. I’ll update the plan for drawing as well as painting, and for asking you for each key when that piece is wired.

The plan is now Trail Sketch, for drawing and painting, in the repo you already started tonight at d:\Documents\vscode\trail-sketch.

The field card follows the medium you pick. Graphite and ink get a three-step value study. Watercolor and oil add three pigment swatches. Both say what to draw or paint, and when the light dies.

Entire is in, next to DevRelay, because they do different jobs:

  • DevRelay embeds the transcript in the DEV draft, which is what the Touch Grass judges asked to see.
  • Entire ties this Cursor session to the commits. Hooks go on with entire agent add cursor. This chat started before those hooks, so after the first real commit we attach it with entire session attach. The write-up then uses entire why to show why the field-card code exists, and links the session on entire.io.

Keys wait until the piece that needs them. Gemma is first for you: we pause at the field-card route and you paste a Google AI Studio key for gemma-3-12b-it. ElevenLabs waits until narration. Render uses the account you already have. Nothing goes in the client.

Prize categories on the draft are Gemma, Render, ElevenLabs, and Entire. The draft stays unpublished until you say to publish. Week 1 still closes tonight at 11:59 PM PDT.

Community Wisdom: How to Build a Longitude and Latitude Finder with JavaScript and MapLibre

Search, map tap, and geolocation should all write one longitude/latitude state, and private geocoding keys should stay on the server. That is the location model Trail Sketch uses.

An interactive map is justified when the reader has to search, zoom, and pick a place. Trail Sketch is that case: the map is the product, not a decoration beside a heading.

entire is now installed and ready to be used to attach existing and future sessions for this project. Then devrelay CLI, also installed, will embed our transcript to our draft. We will be security aware not to expose keys or secrets and maintain /code-security in our project. I'm ready to continue building

Trail Sketch stays in the repo you started tonight. I’ll turn on Entire for this Cursor session first, then build the map and field card with keys kept out of the source.

Entire’s Cursor hooks are on for this repo. Next I’ll put the map, the study sheet, and the server in place, with API keys read only from the environment.

The map container is collapsing to zero height after MapLibre takes over positioning. I’ll pin it to the viewport and resize it once the style loads.

Trail Sketch is running locally at http://localhost:5173. The map, place search, and weather line are live. A study without a Gemma key shows a labeled sample, and narration without an ElevenLabs key says so instead of failing quietly. Keys stay in environment variables, and .env is gitignored.

How to use it. Search or tap a pigment dot, pick graphite, ink, watercolor, or oil, then write the study. Drawing media get a three-step value study. Watercolor and oil add three pigment swatches. The last live Gemma study is kept on the phone.

Sessions. Entire has Cursor hooks on this repo, and this design session is attached to checkpoint 01M4Q6MS3EC6PT87MVMP9A62B0. entire is not logged in yet, so run entire login before a push if you want that checkpoint on entire.io. DevRelay saved a scrubbed transcript and an unpublished draft. The draft is marked as AI-assisted. Edit it here: https://dev.to/ndyxwzpfraie/trail-sketch-a-field-study-for-drawing-and-painting-outdoors-26hj-temp-slug-1172351/edit

The draft is not published. Week 1 of Touch Grass still closes tonight at 11:59 PM PDT. Two local commits are not pushed.

Next key. Copy .env.example to .env and set GEMMA_API_KEY there. Do not paste the key into this chat, because this session is being saved. Tell me when the file is in place and I will restart the API and write a live study. ElevenLabs and Render can follow the same way.

Community Wisdom: Does This Page Really Need a Map Library?

An interactive map is justified when someone has to search, zoom, and pick a place. That is the whole screen of Trail Sketch.

I've added my gemini key to env. the idea is for trail sketch to suggest locations or ideas for the study based on the artists intersts and those will appear when they load the app in their mobile browser and see what their area has to offer or if they want to travel or hike some distance. /// the app needs a great UX map and location explorer that is visually oriented for the locations that users will have a preview of before picking, they will tap on them, have an idea of what they want to study that day and tap on its nearest 'feel' word or write a description of what it is, /// the nearest or closest location to that prompt will be suggested with the visual preview of what they are like, and they can click through to get more details about what they will be drawing or painting. /// I will go over to ElevenLabs to acquire my key, then inform me what you need for using render.

The map should open on nearby studies that match how you want to draw today, with a preview before the full field card. I’ll check how the Gemini key is named, without reading its value, then reshape the explorer around that.

The key is on the server under the name the study route already reads. Next I’ll load it without printing it, and put a visual place rail on the map: interests, a walk or a hike, and a feel word or a short description that picks the closest study.

The place list was resetting itself inside effects, which the linter rejects. I’ll tie that reset to the distance, location, and feel choices instead.

Trail Sketch now opens as a place explorer. The Gemini key in .env is loaded only on the server, and a live watercolor study for Grenadier Pond came back from Gemma.

On a phone, the first screen asks what you look for: water, trees, buildings, sky, streets, hills. After that it uses your location and lines up painted previews for Here (about 1.5 km), A walk, or A hike. Each card has a small study painting, a feel word, and the distance. Tap Still, Bright, Tangled, Open, Weathered, Quiet, or Monumental, or describe the day (“a stone bridge in flat light”), and the closest match moves to the front. Open the study is the drawing or painting sheet: weather, values, and, for watercolor and oil, three pigments.

Around High Park that was Grenadier Pond at 420 m for Still, with High Park itself at 80 m when the match was trees. The pond study included the flat overcast light, three swatches, and a note to leave before the mist. Narration still waits on an ElevenLabs key.

This key can call Gemma 4, so GEMMA_MODEL is now gemma-4-26b-a4b-it. A study can take about half a minute; the button reads Writing… while it does.

Render. I don’t need the key in chat. When you want it deployed:

  1. Say when to commit and push. Render builds from GitHub, and this explorer is only on this machine until then.
  2. Create a Web Service from AbisoyeOnanuga/trail-sketch. render.yaml already has the Node build (npm install && npm run build) and start (npm start).
  3. In the Render dashboard, set the same names as .env, with the values typed there:
    • GEMMA_API_KEY
    • GEMMA_MODEL = gemma-4-26b-a4b-it
    • ELEVENLABS_API_KEY once you have it
    • ELEVENLABS_VOICE_ID only if you want a voice other than the default

NODE_ENV is already production in the blueprint. Locally, put the ElevenLabs key in .env as ELEVENLABS_API_KEY and tell me when it’s there.

The app is running at http://127.0.0.1:5173/.

The place-preview search didn’t turn up a pattern worth copying. Pocket Field: one local AI card, then a little time outside by widechaos is another Touch Grass entry built around a single outdoor card. What Really Happens When You Search for a Place on Google Maps? by Tanu Priya and Google Street View in the places it never sent a car by clover_wolf are about search and coverage, so the previews here stay painted study cards on OpenStreetMap.

Briefly inform the user about the task result and perform any follow-up actions (if needed). If there's no follow-ups needed, don't explicitly say that.

Those notices are the earlier Trail Sketch servers shutting down. I’ll confirm the ones that replaced them are still up.

Those earlier Trail Sketch processes exited because they were stopped to reload the app. The current ones are still running: the API on port 8787 and the site at http://127.0.0.1:5173/.

once user selects "what they want to study", make the search for a plein air location easier instead of prompting for exact places, the app will help reveal places and thier visual previews, like a visual autocomplete. ideally it is nearby and walkable or close with transit, /// affordances can be made if distance is unrealistically far and the app will do its job of suggested nearest alternative. the purpose to get them the thier location /// making the decision part easy for the artist. then once they accept, it is catalogued along with date and other information about the location so they build a library of places they've studied /// they can save their visited sites by using their google account login. the app will mark the location as studied/visited. and the location details stored (date, time, etc) /// we will benefit from map icons that indicate features of a location /// change 'I am here' to my location 'find places near me' or more appropriate. /// I the light, middle, and dark signify palette suggestions for the artist, it is unclear to a new user as they appear. /// in the card for suggested places, allow the entire card to be selected, now lower card is not active and breaks UX or confuses. /// 'write a study when you are ready to look' is a bit vague, should be written based on what it is accomplishing for the user. it's describing what they can expect, but they decide what to keep and leave out as they are the artists. /// "read it to me" can also be worded more appropriately /// seems like I am also missing devrelay and entire agent sessions as I browse the web dashboards to track my progress /// UI is mobile-browser oriented so we have to adjust to the smaller, portrail layout, reduce heavy horizontal scrolling and removing the horizontal scroll bar or at least a better visual indicator for scroll behaviour /// while keeping visual heirarchy and layout, keeping ease of use of the map, the cards, preventing clipping /// label "graphite, ink, watercolor, oil" with something like "medium or select your medium" /// update "a stone bridge in flat light" to what the search field is for rather than an example so users know what to do with it

The explorer should help an artist choose a nearby place, then keep a record of what they studied. I’ll look through the current screens and the session tools so the mobile layout, the wording, and the saved visits land together.

The choice should happen on the previews: nearby and walkable first, the whole card tappable, and a dated record once a place is accepted. I’ll also make the value plan and the mobile layout readable on a phone.

Choosing a place is now a short list of nearby previews, and accepting one files it in a studied library.

After you pick what you look for, the map shows places you can walk to or reach by a short ride, each with a painted preview and a pin for water, trees, buildings, a viewpoint, or a ridge. The whole card is the button: the first tap selects it, and Study this place accepts it. Typing in Subject or mood nearby filters those previews. If a named place is farther than a walk or a short ride, the app keeps you on the nearest place already around you. Find places near me replaces “I am here.” Select your medium labels graphite, ink, watercolor, and oil. The mood field is labeled What to match, with the hint “Light, subject, or mood.”

Accepting a place records the date, time, medium, and what kind of place it is. Studied opens that library, and the map marks the pin as studied. On a phone the list scrolls downward, with a thin vertical cue, and the map stays visible between the bar and the cards.

The study sheet now calls the three tones a value plan: light, middle, and dark are starting tones, and you decide what stays. Suggest a plan asks for that look. Hear this plan plays it.

Google sign-in is wired, and it needs a Web client id in .env and on Render as GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID. Until that is set, the library stays on this phone. After you sign in, those visits are kept on this phone under that Google account.

The Entire CLI is signed in as Abisoye Onanuga. The DEV agent session from earlier in this project is private and only has the first short transcript, which is why the later work is not on that dashboard: Trail Sketch field guide design. I can save an updated session there, and attach this work in Entire, if you want that.

The app is at http://127.0.0.1:5173/.

Briefly inform the user about the task result and perform any follow-up actions (if needed). If there's no follow-ups needed, don't explicitly say that.

That notice is the previous API process stopping so the sign-in routes could load. I’ll confirm the replacement is still serving.

The previous API process exited because it was stopped to load the studied-place sign-in routes. The replacement is running on port 8787, and the site is still at http://127.0.0.1:5173/.

list seems to disappear on mobile screens which are the focus, wide web app looks okay, and scroll is vertical. map icons are simplistic could be more iconic or visual. mobile web-browser UI has issues with button scaling or size being too big and cropping of top edge of bottom search card where results appear /// picking best way to display cards is based on device size /// selected card should maintain preview image where description is written and narrated by voice /// apply visual icons to rest of UI where appropriate /// our session should always be updated to both platforms entire and devrelay so we can easily see our progress, and update our devrelay/DEV draft

The mobile list is getting clipped, and the selected place should keep its preview beside the plan. I’ll fix that layout, make the icons clearer, then update the Entire session and the DEV draft.

On a phone, the place list stays on screen and scrolls vertically. A wide window shows the same list in two columns. The study sheet keeps the place preview beside the written plan.

At a phone width, the results sheet starts just below the search bar, so the first card is no longer tucked under the buttons. Medium, distance, Near me, and Studied use small marks. Map pins are little scenes for water, trees, a viewpoint, buildings, and a ridge. Opening High Park keeps the tree preview next to the place name, the weather line, and the plan you can have read aloud.

The unpublished DEV draft is updated: Trail Sketch draft. It embeds the new session, Trail Sketch mobile field explorer, and still links the earlier design slice. It is not published.

Entire’s checkpoint 01M4Q6MS3EC6PT87MVMP9A62B0 is on the local commit 65a2cb3. That capture still holds the opening turns of this Cursor session. A push is what makes it show on entire.io. I have not pushed.

Community Wisdom: Pocket Field: one local AI card, then a little time outside

Source: widechaos Tags: devchallenge, hf26challenge

The write-up treats the model as one card, then sends you outside. Trail Sketch follows that shape: the map does the choosing, and Gemma writes the plan only after a place is accepted.

Community Wisdom: What Really Happens When You Search for a Place on Google Maps?

The post walks through how a “near me” query becomes a ranked list. Trail Sketch keeps that ranking on the phone, so a mood or a description never becomes part of the place-lookup URL.

Briefly inform the user about the task result and perform any follow-up actions (if needed). If there's no follow-ups needed, don't explicitly say that.

The icon and study-sheet files lint cleanly. The phone layout, preview on the study sheet, and the unpublished DEV draft are already in place.

allow user to minimise or close results bar so they can use the map, a small mobile screen has little room to display both map and cards . enable delete studied areas. use https://github.com/uiverse-io/galaxy to update icons appropriately, and https://github.com/darkroomengineering/lenis for smooth scrolling. "Tangled" description should be an easier to identify word. use interactions to show user is using "suggest a plan" or the voice model. animated for more visual exprience

The place sheet should get out of the way on a phone, studied places should be removable, and the writing and voice steps should show that work is happening. I'll look at the current sheet, library, and feel words first, then fit Lenis and the icon treatment to the sketchbook.

allow user to minimise or close results bar so they can use the map, a small mobile screen has little room to display both map and cards . enable delete studied areas. use https://github.com/uiverse-io/galaxy to update icons appropriately, and https://github.com/darkroomengineering/lenis for smooth scrolling. "Tangled" description should be an easier to identify word. use interactions to show user is using "suggest a plan" or the voice model. animated for more visual exprience. real photos for cards are great or generated

The place sheet needs to get out of the way on a phone, studied places need a delete, and the cards should show a clearer label, motion while a plan or voice is working, and a real picture when one exists. I’ll look at the current sheet, library, and the two libraries you linked before changing the layout.

The phone sheet will tuck away so the map can be used, studied places can be removed, and cards will prefer a real picture with a drawn fallback. “Tangled” becomes “Trees”, and the plan and voice actions get a visible working state.

On a phone, Use the map tucks the place list down to a bar, and Hide leaves only Show places, so the map can fill the screen. Studied places can be deleted. The feel word that used to read Tangled now reads Trees.

Cards use a Wikipedia photo when the place has one. High Park showed a real hillside picture beside the study. Places without a photo keep the drawn study. Suggest a plan shows a moving ink ring and the line “Writing a plan for this place.” Hear this plan uses a second ring while the reading is playing. Those rings are adapted from Uiverse Galaxy loaders and recolored to the sketchbook palette. The map pins stay the small scene drawings, because Galaxy is a library of interface pieces rather than map symbols.

Lenis smooths the place list and the study sheet. The map keeps its own pan and zoom.

While checking delete, Christie Pits Park was removed from the library on this phone. High Park is still there.

The unpublished draft is updated: Trail Sketch draft. It embeds Trail Sketch map room and study photos. It is not published. These changes are still local, so Entire will show them after a commit and a push.

Community Wisdom: CSS Overflow — Hidden, Scroll & Auto Explained

Source: Ozan Yildirim Tags: overflowhidden, csstips, cssoverflow

The write-up is about keeping overflow inside the element that should scroll. That is why Lenis is attached to the place list and the study sheet, and the map is left to handle its own gestures.
